What ? Another book on acupuncture ? Worse ? Several more to come! There are already too many of them! You are quite right. By the way, here is a photo of my bookshelves on acupuncture and Chinese Medicine…

So I can only go along with you. Still, when I am asked the name of a book as fundamental reference, I cannot come out with a precise answer because up to now there is none that gives me complete satisfaction, except a few on the general theory of Chinese medicine and, in this or that book, a specially well written chapter on various topics.

Some of these publications were my bedside books, my « revelations ». But that was long time ago, their content might be outdated, or simply you cannot find them any more.

I don’t pretend to compete with my library, even less with those books that brought me a special understanding light. My purpose is other. Acupuncture is an adventure, and I would like to share with you the one that I lived through and that still exists in my inner world, by offering you all that has made my acupunctural existence, from my first decision at the age of 14 till now.

A very concrete adventure, still today. More than ever it is the greater part of my days, of my thoughts, of my questioning, always intense. Intense is a word that has made my thinking vibrate all along my existence. By reading my first book you shall be aware of it. That is why my purpose is “other”. And you will also discover part of my inner world.

Acupuncture is like a kaleidoscope of which you see the different facets and articulations each time you look into it. I will show you how to straighten out the image so that it is the same as the one before, which is reassuring. I will teach you how to use all the facets surrounding acupuncture and making it so fascinating, so thrilling and so useful.

You will enrich your knowledge in acupuncture through history, through culture, through the language. You will understand how and why it has been integrated in the Chinese medical system and what to think about it.

And above all I will give you a simple and logical method that will allow you to treat, not only pain (the great strength of acupuncture) but also many functional disorders.

And each time I will show you how I treat, and also how you should develop your own way of working depending on your possibilities of time, of space, of category of patients. I will let you follow your individual tendencies, proposing and suggesting, imagining and pushing in all possible directions so that you and your patients benefit for the best from what your are and from your constant progress.

Maybe you are wondering:

Is this book for me ? Does it concern me? Will I be able to read it without difficulty?

Here is my answer: I am addressing:

  • The student slightly at lost and who cannot find any more the thread of the teaching he is following or has followed.
  • The practitioner who is not quite happy with the results he is getting and who would like to improve his skills.
  • Any person who wants to know more about this technique.

What is the originality of these books ?

In addition to the handouts my students receive orally (but which is now in the books) the results of decades of experience carried by :

  • Souvenirs of my own learning.
  • Anecdotes throughout my career.
  • Stories on the different teachings.
  • Remarks and reflections on nearly every chapter, sub-chapter, paragraph : on the location of points, on the theories, on the method, on the technique, on the treatments, with constantly references to live cases. Thoughts on the soundness or the relativity, even of what is sometimes written in my own handouts, but mostly on what is stated in this or that manual, whether chinese or western. Special clinical cases, surprise-successes or unforeseen-failures that I have personally experienced.
  • Discussions on the practical and material aspects to which all the students are confronted when they have finished a course. How to start, what strategy and where, what financial investment, etc.
  • Reasonable and measured suggestions, which are the constant of my teaching. I encourage enthusiasm, I moderate exaggerated excitement, I recommend a balance tilted forwards and adapted to each student in a different way. This makes hundreds of interruptions during the lessons. That is what makes it unique.
